J. S . Key House 1956

This project involves the restoration and refurbishment of a Mid-century Modern house in Warriewood, Sydney.

The original house was designed by John Allen and Russell C Jack. One of the early projects for the duo formed a partnership in the same year this house was designed, going on to join forces with Keith Cottier in 1965 to form one of Sydney’s longest running and significant Architecture firms Allen, Jack + Cottier.

Our new work included adding two additional bedrooms with a rooftop garden and outdoor terrace. Bold, solid and contrasting to the original house, a separate face brick, breezeblock and off form concrete pavilion has been created. A glazed atrium and stairwell connects the new pavilion with the old house. Subfloor rooms were excavated to create a rumpus and bathroom. New kitchen and bathroom upgrades to the original section of the house.
